We had arranged with friends to spend a week in Berri, South Australia, to catch up and relax. Berri is a lovely town on the River Murray and takes its name from the local Aboriginal meaning bend in the river.
We now store our caravan in Mannum, about an hour's drive from home, so the day before we set off and packed our van, had a look around the town and spent some time with our family there and next morning we headed for Berri.

The weather was good for travelling and we stopped at Forster Lookout to view the River Murray and then drove onto the Ferry nearby at Walkers Flat.

We arrived at Berri, checked into th caravan park, and met up with some of our friends who had arrived earlier. By mid afternoon most of our group had arrived and we sat around having a drink and a chat.
I always look forward to taking photos of the sunsets and this one didn't disappoint me although there was a playing field next to the caravan park.
The week was filled with lunches out, a few walks, a lot of chatting, laughing and drinking and some sightseeing.

In total there are 26 man made locks, weirs, barrages on the River Murray.
Another afternoon we had some fun on the Mini Golf Course, more laughing than anything else.
When visiting the Riverland you should go to a winery, so we headed out to Banrock Station and Wetlands. Unfortunately the weather turned a bit cold and wet so we didn't do the wetlands walk but we did enjoy a coffee and some of us had devonshire tea.

Another afternoon we drove to Paringa, near Renmark, and were surprised to see the Emergency Services towing a broken down boat through Lock 5.
Lock 5 was built during the 1920's to regulate the flow and levels of the Murray River, ensuring the river is navigable at all times. |
