We took advantage of a lovely, sunny winter's day in Adelaide and headed off to the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens where we had visited last year in Autumn. The lovely autumn colours were few and far between, but the beauty of the gardens was still remarkable and I tried to capture Winter in the gardens.

As we headed up the South Eastern Freeway, we passed the Toll House which is a landmark as we go into the Adelaide Hills. In 1844 when the road was opened as a gateway to the hills and to other major towns it was decided to build the Toll House, a hexagonal building, to collect a toll to cover some of the costs of the building of the road. These days we don't pay a toll and only 3 years after the toll was introduced, it was decided to abolish the toll as it was unfair to agriculturists in the area.

As we continued on the freeway we entered the Heysen Tunnel which was constructed in 1998 to bypass some of the dangerous corners which were hazardous and most South Australians would remember the old Devils Elbow which was a particularly bad corner on the old road.

We were surprised to see the car park so full, but it was the perfect day to be out and about now that we are able to travel within our State and the Gardens were open to the public.
We headed off and this was the first sign we came across!
There are many areas that provide seating and good opportunities for photos. We decided to take a slightly different path to our last time here in Autumn 2019. I took this photo to compare with our last time here.
We sat here for a while but a gardener started up a blower and disturbed the peace so we didn't stay long.

The reflections on the lake look so much better in the photos, as there was a very slight ripple on the water which I thought would not make for a good photo.
