Map of Yorke Peninsula |
Yorke Peninsula in South Australia is one of our most beautiful coastlines. It is very rugged and wild, has beautiful beaches and is very popular with surfers.
We have visited this area many times over many years and always find some different little towns and beaches to visit as there is so much to see and is only an hour from Adelaide. There is 700 km of pristine coastline to explore and so we have needed more than 1 visit to see it, and probably we will do another trip next year.
Corny Point is about 3 hours from Adelaide as it is on the north west coast of Yorke Peninsula. The Corny Point Lighthouse is located on the northernmost point of the "foot" of the peninsula. It was originally built for the protection of the grain ships in the Spencer Gulf.

Marion Bay is situated on the "foot" of the Peninsula. It is a beautiful bay and we have stayed there a few times in the lovely caravan park. We used to stay in one of the sites right near a short walk to the beach and it was such a lovely spot but on our last trip we weren't able to have that site as the new owners had put cabins along the foreshore sites, probably because they get more money for a cabin. We were so disappointed and don't think we'll stay there next trip as there are a lot of lovely other little caravan parks to stay on the Peninsula.

Ethel Wreck anchor, Stenhouse Bay |
Sailing under the Norwegian flag, the Ethel entered Investigator Strait on 2nd January 1904 under the command of Captain Bogwald. It had sailed from South Africa and was bound for Port Adelaide to receive a cargo of grain. The Ethel struck a reef which damaged the rudder. |

What lovely beaches! Being way inland, beaches are rather exotic to me--lol! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece of coastline, I do so love wild, unspoilt beaches. I don't think I've ever seen photos from here before. Thanks for taking me there.
ReplyDeletePauline, thanks for your comment and I think we are lucky to have these beaches so close to home. Wishing you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteRita, I do love the beaches that we are able to visit, but I also love the desert of inland Australia as they are special in their own way. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
