Bridges

My Sunday Selection this week is Bridges  here in Australia and some from other countries we have visited.

Paringa Bridge, Renmark, South Australia

The Paringa Bridge over the River Murray has been listed as a South Australian heritage bridge since 1989.  It is considered to be of state heritage value because of its outstanding construction and design characteristics.  The Paringa suspension bridge is an engineering monument and was opened in 1927.  It opens twice a day to allow river traffic to pass.

Wayne, Alberta, Canada

Wayne is a community within the town of Drumheller, Alberta.  We visited here in 2007 and were surprised to find the Bridges of Wayne.  There are 11 bridges along a 6 km stretch of road from Rosedale to Wayne carrying traffic over the Rosebud River.

In the same area near Drumheller, Alberta, is the Star Mine Suspension Bridge.  It is 117 mtr long and crosses the Red Deer River in Drumheller.  It was constructed in 1931.

This bridge is 18 km long and links the eastern and western parts of Denmark.  We were on a cruise and passed under this bridge around midnight and it was very cold waiting on the deck to get the photos.  The bridge is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is only closed on very rare occasions.

My theme this week is Rooftops and I have gone to my archives and found some of my photos from our trip to the Baltics and discovered that I took quite a few photos of rooftops in Tallinn, Estonia.  Some of the photos were taken by my dear husband so I will give credit to him as he is a good photographer and takes more time to get a good photo, whereas I get a bit impulsive and just point and shoot sometimes.  I guess this says a bit about us!

We drove to a local restaurant/winery only a few kms from home where they were having a  special display of cars.  

The day was dedicated to a hill climb which was held many years ago and one of the sporting car clubs was hosting the day with displays of cars and photos of the event going back to 1948.  

Another reason to visit was the food and wine which was also enjoyable and the weather was perfect for it too.

Glen Ewin Estate

Glen Ewin Estate was established in 1843.  It was known for its large quantity of jams made under direction of horticulturalist George McEwin. The Wauchope family bought the property in 1991 and have since built the heritage listed property up to be the beautiful Wedding venue and tourist destination it is today.

We love this property and return here when they have special events and also because our daughter's wedding was here so it holds very special memories for us.  They also serve great food and wine too.

Today we enjoyed looking at many cars that were displayed in the beautiful grounds at Glen Ewin.
