Travelling to Moruya, NSW

Another entry from my Diary in 2018 on our trip to Moruya in March 2018.

Day 1 - we left home at 9 am and drove through the Adelaide hills, crossed the Murray River on the Swan Reach ferry, then onto Renmark and crossed the border into Victoria and on to Mildura where we stopped the night at Red Cliffs Caravan Park.  It had been a long day, about 420 km and we were happy that the caravan park had lovely green grass and not very crowded, and was surrounded by grape vines which was the perfect setting for a relaxing drink.

Day 2 -The next day we set off after a good night's sleep and arrived in Balranald and stopped for lunch at a small park.

Balranald
Back on the road to Hay and decided to stop for the night  at the free Rest Area at Sandy Point Reserve, just out of the town of Hay.

Day 3 - Next morning we drove around the town and found a Sculpture Trail and the Railway Station, so took a few photos.

We left Hay and headed east to West Wyalong, Goolgowi and Weethalle, through farming and grazing countryside.

At Weethalle we stopped to take a photo of the artwork on the silo there and continued on to another free camping area where we had camped before so we knew it was a good place to stop. I wrote in my diary that Ron remembered the makes of cars and caravans that were there on our last trip there and I only remembered the people we talked to!  I think that says a bit about our personalities.😉

Day 4:  Next morning we set off again but didn't drive as far and arrived at the small town of Forbes where we booked into the caravan park as Ron needed a day without driving too far.  We decided to have lunch at the Servicemen's Club as it was Ron's birthday.  After lunch we went back to the caravan for some drinks and just to relax.  So far we have travelled 1,1172 km from home.

Forbes

The weather was now quite warm so we were happy that our caravan site was nice and shady.

Day 5:  We left Forbes and headed for Eugowra where we stopped to have a quick look around the town as we noticed some really good murals on many of the buildings in the main street.

Update: Very sad news in November 2022 :  a tsunami-like flood swept through the rural central west NSW town of Eugowra. The force of the water was so strong that it swept away homes and vehicles. Businesses, the local primary school, the town's preschool and many homes were destroyed by the flood.

The murals were amazing but unfortunately I think they are probably destroyed by the floods in 2022.  We heard recently on a tv show that Eugowra has slowly started to rebuild but so much was destroyed it will be a long time before things get back again and the town was only about 700 residents.  It is very sad but the rural community is very supportive and are working together so there is hope for its future.

.... next blog post will be the continuation of our trip to Moruya😀👫

  2. Rita, we are thinking about another trip to see Eugowra sometime over the next 12 months so I will let you know what is happening there.

  3. We have done most of this trip in the opposite direction. The one place I have not been is Weethalle where I have wanted to see the silo art. It seems to be in spot that is out of place to where we are going. I loved our caravanning days but now we have to enjoy it as a static van like we did this Easter.

  4. Joan Elizabeth, your comment about a static van on your block sounds perfect. We don't know how much longer we will be able to travel but are making the most of it for the time being but it won't last forever as our health problems are making travelling a lot more difficult but while we can still enjoy we will continue.
