Kangaroo Paw

Kangaroo Paw

The Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos) are endemic to Western Australia.  The flowers are velvety and come in various colours of yellow, orange and red.  The Kangaroo Paw is the floral emblem of Western Australia.  The name is derived from the shape of the unopened flower which resembles a kangaroo paw.  As a cut flower they last a long time.

Our World Tuesday 19th February 2019

Our World Tuesday Graphic

Our World Tuesday

Where family-friendly bloggers share images of their world and tell us a little bit of the story about the place

Wind Farm near Burra, South Australia
Burra is a tourist town in the mid north of South Australia.  Burra was a copper mining area between 1845 and 1877 and was the largest in Australia.  Burra has many historic buildings and a great self guided tour of the historic sites.

Terowie Railway Station
There is now a free camping site at the railway station but unfortunately the town is now mostly abandoned with only one or two shops open in the main street.  The quality of water in the town has been a huge problem and is probably one of the reasons that the town is almost a ghost town.  We always stop in Terowie for a look around the abandoned town as there are still a number of lovely old buildings scatttered around.
Terowie Railway Station
Terowie is another historic town in South Australia  about 200 km north of Adelaide. The railway station was opened in 1880 and its claim to fame was when General Douglas MacArthur in 1942 said "I shall return" while changing trains.  He apparently also said this in various other speeches.

Yunta, South Australia
Yunta is another small town approximately 270 km from Adelaide.

My Corner of the World

My Corner of the World

Blyth Cinema, South Australia
The population of Blyth, in the mid north of South Australia, has a population of 518 in 2016, and is 121km from Adelaide.  The Blyth Cinema was established by the local community in 2005.  The cinema seats 112 and is a wonderful attraction for the small town.  We spent the weekend in Clare, only about 40 km from Blyth, and enjoyed two great movies.  Our car club organised the trip and the local community supplied a great lunch for us and our club were able to choose which movies we would see and the Cinema were able to provide what we requested as well as a few little extras of popcorn and lollies.  We had a great weekend and will be doing it again.

Monday has come around again and it is a bit cooler here in Adelaide.  I have put together some mosaics for Monday which are photos from our travels in Australia.  Hope you enjoy them.
