J is for ?

 KIMBA

Unfortunately I have not been able to find enough photos for "J" so will have to skip J and move on to "K" for Kimba, a small town about 460 km north west of Adelaide, South Australia and is one of the major wheat producing areas of SA.

Kimba is another town we have visited a few times in the last 10 years, although we have only stayed overnight. As Kimba is on the route we take to get to Western Australia we  pass through on our way over to WA and then on our way back, and each time we try to find a few new and interesting places to see in and around the town.

Silo art in Kimba

Many of the country towns we have travelled through have now got these great murals on the silos and on walls in and around the town which makes it more interesting and  get visitors to see more of the town and of course to spend more money in the town which helps the small rural towns that have struggled over the years. There is no charge to view the murals but I think most people would stop at the shops or the service stations to purchase food etc. which is what we do.

More murals in Kimba

The murals above are at the Recreation Ground where camping is provided for a donation which is where we have stayed and we are more than happy to give a donation which goes towards the community recreation centre. Facilities are provided and although we don't use them as we have our own shower and toilet in our caravan, we were told they are very good and clean so that is great.

The Big Cockatoo at the service station in Kimba

At the time we were in Kimba  the poor old Big Cockatoo was looking a bit faded but he has recently been given a makeover and looks a lot younger so I imagine now he will have many more years being photographed.

Edward John Eyre and his aboriginal tracker sculptures

We drove  a short distance to Whites Hill Lookout to see the sculptures and a good view of Kimba.  We could have walked but we both struggle walking too far and took the easy way. The sculptures are huge and are a tribute to the indigenous trackers who assisted Edward John Eyre who is remembered for being the first man to cross Australia from Sydney to the Swan River in WA.

View of Kimba from the Lookout

As  we  walked around the area there were more sculptures along the walking trails.

Kimba and the Silo from the Lookout

Well, that's K done and dusted and I hope you have enjoyed the photos.

See you next time.

That's a lot of interesting murals for a small town. What a view from above at that lookout. :)

Rita, the view from the Lookout was great especially when photographed with a zoom lens. The murals on the buildings definitely make them more attractive.

I love the silo art that is popping up all over the place. It is generally interesting and of high quality, the same can't be said of some of the murals in country towns. Thanks for your tour of Kimba. We passed through there once and didn't spent much time.
