My Sunday Selections

I am continuing with my theme of country towns as we travel through South Australia towards Western Australia in 2017.

This meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Drop in to Elephant's Child and have a look.

After leaving Wudinna and Pildappa Rock we travelled to Minnipa which is about 30km west of Wudinna.  Minnipa is a  farming area of approximately 200 people.

If you enlarge this map you can see Wudinna inland about half way between Port Lincoln and Streaky Bay on the western coast of Eyre Peninsula

Minnipa Airport

The airport and runway looks to be unused. We had a wander around as the airport was named after a family friend.

Jack was a pilot in WW2 and after the war he owned a store in Minnipa.  He was known as “The Flying Storekeeper” and used to fly his plane to collect supplies from Adelaide and on one of his trips his plane crashed on his return flight to Minnipa and all 3 occupants were killed.

Ron standing on the runway.  No planes here for quite some time.

The next town we stopped at was Poochera, another small town in the wheat belt of Eyre Peninsula.

A pretty garden in a very dry climate

Our next stop was Streaky Bay about 60 km from Poochera.  Streaky Bay is situated on the Great Australian Bight and is a beautiful town with all the amenities youwant when travelling.  We stayed at a caravan park and had a site right on the beachfront -perfect!

Beautiful view from our caravan

We stayed in Streaky Bay for a few days as it was such a lovely caravan park and our site was so good that we didn't want to leave, but of course we had to continue on our road trip.
