Day 8 - we left Baxter rest area which is 115km east of Balladonia. According to my diary it was a lovely sunny morning and we had a tail wind so Ron was very happy. We are still on the 90 mile Straight Road, and there is some roadkill but not as much as yesterday.
About 20 km from Balladonia the road had a bend in it so we presume we are at the end of the 90 mile Straight road but there was no sign, but I might have missed it. There was another RFDS air strip on the road but no planes around so that was good as I don't want to be there at the same time.

We continued on and arrived at Norseman where we bought some lunch and stopped in a nice little park on the way out of town. Norseman is a mining town and it was good to find a few more services there than just a Roadhouse.

Lovely green gardens |
This life size bronze sculpture of the horse called "Norseman" was erected by an elected fund raising body of Norseman residents to perpetuate the memory of the horse and the early pioneers of the town.
After a few days of not much roadside scenery, we were very pleased to find some lovely gardens and sculptures in Norseman.
We continued on as we wanted to get to Esperance where we planned to stay for a few days. We passed through a couple of small towns, Salmon Gums, Grass Patch and Scaddon where we stopped for a short break at the Pioneer Park in memory of Freddy Curnow who died in bushfires in 2015.

From Scaddon it was a good drive to Esperance and we found a Caravan Park as we drove into town, so decided to book into it as we didn't want to drive any further.
I have only visited Western Australia on a fly in, fly out basis so thanks for this very different perspective.
ReplyDeleteEC- I am glad you are enjoying travelling with us. It will be good when we can all get out and about again. Take care.
DeleteNice photos of that area. We always stopped at Balladonia and Norseman to buy something to eat.
ReplyDeleteLike the murals, they look good.
Take care.
I hope one day I will get to vist W A
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the pictures, especially the Murals or Scaddon. We are 'sorta' thinking of coming off the road. After 22 years, and now in out 80s it may e time. This has been a sweet visit Rosie and thanks for stopping by the Shipslog. I have always considered it very unfortunate that life hasn't taken me to Australia. Beautiful country!
ReplyDeleteSherry & jack, on the other side of the Equator....
Jo-Anne - I hope you can visit WA, it's huge but well worth visiting.
