NZ Cruise - Wellington

Our World Tuesday Graphic

Linking with Our World Tuesday

Wellington

Our next stop on our NZ cruise was Wellington, the capital of New Zealand and we had decided that we would visit the Te Papa Museum.  From our cruise ship we caught a shuttle bus into the city and got off at the museum so we didn't have to walk far which was helpful for me as I can't always walk far.  The museum had a World War I  display so we lined up for it and were soon able to go through the special area set aside for it which was a darkened area with larger than  life sized sculptures depicting the life of men and women in the war.  It was very moving.

There was so much to see in the museum so we walked around some of the other displays which were excellent too.  Ron spent some time at this display of the Britten V1000 motorcycle.

Built in 1992, the Britten V1000 motorbike is regarded as a contemporary classic of motorbike design. Te Papa's motorbike is the second of only ten in the world.
The motorbike is the brainchild of John Britten (1950-1995), a New Zealander who had a dream to make the fastest four-stroke motorbike in the world. Britten began designing and building in his garage-workshop, initially trying to remodel the bodywork of his Ducati racer. Twelve years later, assisted by a small group of racing bike enthusiasts, he produced an entirely new motorbike - one that demonstrated a leap forward in motorbike engineering and aesthetics

After seeing many of the  displays at the museum we headed off to the cable car and lunch.

Buildings in Wellington
On our walk back to the ship I took some random photos of some of the buildings in the city.

Back on the ship after another great day out and about.  Time to put my feet up and have a rest.

I’m sensing more interest in World War I history. Kansas City, here in the states has a fabulous WWI museum that is very interesting. Such a savage and sad war.

The museum looks just amazing and I know what you mean. The one in Canberra had me feeling terribly sad.
We can't walk far either.
