Roses at Renmark

We have spent the last  5 days in the Riverland enjoying the Renmark Rose Festival.  It was a spur of the moment decision to get away for a few days.  The day we left was around 39C which was ok for travelling with a/c in our Landcruiser.  We booked into the Paringa Caravan Park which is only a few km out of Renmark as we didn't want to stay in one of the large, crowded parks in Renmark as the Rose Festival is a tourist attraction for this area and the parks were booked out.  The Paringa caravan park was great, not at all crowded and friendly owners who kept the park very clean and tidy.

After settling into the caravan park we drove back into Renmark and had a walk around the riverfront area.  They have made a lot of improvements in the last few years since we have been there and we enjoyed seeing the roses and the sculptures in the gardens, although it was so hot and the roses had wilted in the heat.

Next morning we headed out to visit one of the Open Gardens on display about 15 km from Renmark at Burrundi Acres which is a working farm.  The garden surrounded the house and has been 25 years of work.  The farm has now been sold so it may not be open again to the public so we wanted to see it and it was wonderful.  This area is in drought so the garden has to survive on very little water.

The Murray River Queen

This stone lion was a gift from the city of Shi Shi, China, to the citizens of Renmark and Paringa. The lion stands on Murray Avenue near the the River Murray, the lifeblood of the district. It was unveiled on the 17th October 2000 by the Secretary General of the Communist Party

  1. Your pictures are wonderful. I too love the windmill, as well as the old truck. I hope the gardens remain open. They are lovely.

    1. I am glad you love the windmill, it just adds something special to the garden. We have 2 in our garden, just 6ft tall but big enough for a small garden.
