Ban Ban Springs, Murgon, Wondai, Dalby, Coonabarabran, Parkes and Goolgowi.

After leaving Biggenden we travelled on the A3 to Ban Ban Springs, Goomeri and then on to Murgon and Wondai.

We stopped at Ban Ban Springs for morning tea and the Grevilleas were out in bloom, so lovely to see some flowers.

After leaving Ban Ban Springs, population 7 people, we headed off to Murgon and then Wondai.  We stopped for a while in Wondai as they have a large Second Hand Shop and Ron wanted to have a look around and I found an Art Gallery where I spent some time enjoying the local art work which was great.

From Wondai we headed to Dalby on the Bunya Highway where we stayed the night at the Pioneer Caravan Park.  Distance travelled today was 270 km.

Next morning we left Dalby and headed to Goondiwindi.  The bitumen road was pretty rough and we were not enjoying the driving but kept going on through Goondiwindi where we were going to stop and have a Pub lunch but the hotels didn't have any signs out and we couldn't get a park for the caravan so we kept going and had lunch at a rest area.  This stretch of road had a lot of road works and we were delayed for some time and the speed limits were restricted.

A lovely scene of cattle grazing

After our lunch stop we kept going until we came to Tookey Creek Rest Area which already had a  caravan there so we pulled in and stayed the night, enjoying the scenery and sunshine but the flies were too much so we had to cut short our outside time.  We have not been bothered by the bush flies for most of our trip so we were a bit surprised to find them so bad here.  Distance travelled was approximately 380 km.

As we are now on our homeward stretch, we are making sure we take advantage of the beautiful weather as back home we know the weather is cold.

Next morning we headed off again, and our next stop was lunch at Coonabarabran.  We had a great lunch at the hotel and the new owners were very friendly which always is good when travelling.

We kept going through the towns of Gilgandra for fuel,  then Dubbo, then on to our overnight stop at Mountain Creek Rest Area about 20 km south of Dubbo.  Distance travelled was about 360km.

Next morning we drove to Peak Hill, Parkes, Forbes then  West Wyalong.  At Parkes we stopped for a visit at the Parkes Observatory.

CSIRO  Observatory, just outside the central-west NSW town of Parkes, hosts the 64-metre Parkes radio telescope, one of the telescopes comprising CSIRO’s Australia Telescope National Facility
Astronomers from across Australia and around the world utilise the Parkes radio telescope to undertake world-class astronomical science. Affectionately known as ’the Dish’, the telescope operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

After our visit to The Parkes Observatory we stopped at Forbes for a quick stop for groceries and then on to Goolgowi caravan park.  Goolgowi is a council owned park and had good drive through sites.  Distance travelled today was about 330 km.

Goolgowi is a small town located in western New South Wales, Australia, around 650 kilometres west of Sydney via the Mid-Western Highway and is the administrative centre of Carrathool Shire. At the 2016 census, Goolgowi had a population of 402.
