Longreach

We arrived in Longreach and drove out to the Thomson River camping area.  It looked very crowded but after driving around we were able to find a spot a bit further away from the river where it wasn't quite so crowded, so we decided to stay there overnight as in the morning we were booked into the caravan park.  When in the camping area near the Thomson River we were lucky to see some Brolgas really close to our caravan.

After leaving Longreach we passed some roadworks and headed towards Winton.

As we have been to Longreach before, we didn't go back  to the Qantas Museum or the Stockmans Hall of Fame, but I will included some photos from our previous trip.

These lovely native flowers grow everywhere here at Winton and I have also seen them in many other outback towns and along the roadside.

The Waltzing Matilda Centre was destroyed by fire in 2015, 2 years after we were there in 2013, but it has been rebuilt and is a great achievement by a small community.

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong

Under the shade of a coolibah tree,

He sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled

You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda

You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me

He sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled,

you'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me
Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong,

Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,

he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,

you'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda

you'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me

he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,

You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me

  2. Now I will spend the rest of the day remembering the outback. At the moment I'm chuckling remembering how I was so delighted to see green grass in the middle of the main street in 1965 that I sat on it and then realized it was green from constant watering and I had a very wet backside until the warmth dried me out. And I think it was Winton where the water from the showers was almost too hot to get under. Thanks for the memories!
