Julia Creek, Richmond, Hughenden

Chinaman's Dam
After leaving the Mary Kathleen town square camping area, we drove onto Cloncurry and went out to Chinaman's Dam only a few kms from Cloncurry.  It was good to see the dam pretty full as last time we were there it was pretty empty.

From there we headed to Julia Creek but couldn't get into the caravan park so headed to the camping area just out of town.   When we arrived we had to register first but there was no fee, they just asked for a donation which we were happy to do, and then we found a spot to stay for the night.  There were dozens of caravans there and very little shade and a lot of dust so we had to be happy with what was available.  We didn't unhook so that made it easy for Ron, and we had internet connection and quickly made a phone call to the caravan park and booked in for the next night.

We arrived at the Julia Creek Caravan Park next morning at 10 am and were soon allocated a site and also booked in for the BBQ tea at the caravan park which was put on by the Pony Club at a cost of $15 pp including a dessert so I didn't have to cook dinner.  I did the laundry while Ron got the van set up and then we went into the town and bought a few groceries and milkshakes at the coffee shop, then to see the Opera House in Julia Creek which is home to a photo gallery of the history of the town.

At night we went to the bbq and enjoyed a chat with the other caravanners while sitting around the campfire.  We had a very good night.

Next morning we left Julia Creek and headed off to Richmond.  On the way we were told by a truck driver that there was a large herd of cattle being driven along the road and to be cautious.  It was a huge herd of approximately 1700 cattle so we very slowly crept along behind the truck.

The next town was Richmond where we stopped for lunch by the lake.
