Moruya Holiday

MORUYA HOLIDAY

Day 1 Adelaide to Mildura/Red Cliffs

We left home around 9 am,  It's always hard to leave the house and all the preparation to get away, but we managed pretty well this time I hope.  We arrived at Swan Reach just in time to catch the ferry across the river.  We like Swan Reach and remembered a couple of Jag runs especially the XJ 30th Anniversary, well we think it was the 30th, but it was a good day anyway.  We arrived in Renmark around lunch time, but before eating we wanted to get our voting done, and after a bit of confusion with NAVMAN and GOOGLE we finally found the polling booth and then got inundated with all the brochures, just like on voting day, but the rest was easy.  We then found a bakery and had a nice lunch but didn't overdo the pastries.  Back in the car, crossed the border into Victoria.  As we approached Mildura we found the sign to Merbein where our Camps Book said there was a camp site by the river.  Well, that was a big mistake.  After a few kms of dirt and Navman directing us onto some very rough dirt roads and finally telling us we were at the camp site, we were a long way from the river and it was not at all like we thought it would be.  We  found our way out and back into Mildura and saw a sign to another camping area in the Reserve, but this also turned out to be pretty rough so we decided to head into Red Cliffs, but as luck would have it, we took the "long and winding road" and eventually found the caravan park but not before a very kind lady could see we were a bit confused and stopped to give us directions to the CP as she said lots of people had trouble finding it as the sign posts are after the park instead of before.  Finally got there and it was a lovely park with green grass and grape vines but no river, but it was great.

Day 2 Red Cliffs to Hay

Woke up to another lovely sunny day and headed off through the small towns of Buronga, Gol Gol, Trentham Cliffs and Euston, then onto Balranald where we stopped for lunch and fuel.  Weather warmer and arrived at Hay around 3 pm and headed straight for Sandy Point which we had looked at on a previous trip through Hay.  It was a great spot for overnight, near the river and plenty of shade and although there were a lot of caravans already set up, there was plenty of room and we found a good spot without too many overhanging branches and nice and level too.  We enjoyed a few drinks outside in the shade of the beautiful gum trees just watching everyone coming and going.

Day 3-  Hay to Marsden

Another sunny morning and on the road again but before leaving Hay we drove around The Bidgee Sculpture Trail and also stopped for fuel.  We stopped at Goolgowi for lunch in a little park and then stopped again at Weethalle and took photos of silo art.

The road from Hay to West Wyalong was pretty rough and our fuel consumption was high.  We stopped at West Wyalong to buy some fruit and veg and more fuel.  We stopped for the night at Marsden Rest Area where we had stopped a few years ago, although at a different time of year, and this time it was very dry with high grass so we didn't go far off the roadside area.

There was a lot of traffic overnight but we still managed to sleep reasonably well.  A few trucks were stopped here as well as a motorhome.

Day 4 - Marsden to Forbes

We woke this morning to another lovely day, a bit cooler to start but warmer later.  Today was a fairly short drive to Forbes and as it was Ron's birthday we decided to stay so booked into a caravan park and enjoyed a nice lunch at the Service Club and then wandered around the town seeing all the sights that Forbes has to offer.
