AROONA DAM
This morning I decided to cook pancakes for breakfast as we didn't have much planned for today so had time for a leisurely breakfast. It was good to relax without having to get on the road again, and as OH usually gets breakfast for us both, the same most days, but it is easy for him as he gets up early and I don't so it is a change when I cook breakfast and I try to do something different although the choices are usually limited to our different tastes in the mornings. There weren't many choices when we are away but pancakes are easy and we had yoghurt, fruit and lemons so a few choices for topping.
After tidying up the van we decided to set off for Leigh Creek again and then on to Aroona Dam. Leigh Creek has changed since the mine closed so we were interested to see the changes as we thought it could be more of a ghost town as many workers left the town when the mine closed but we we surprised to find the town looked good with some new buildings and the houses were mostly occupied.
We then drove on to Aroona Dam, we had been there a long time ago but hadn't really looked around the area so we wanted to do a bit of exploring.
Aroona Dam was decommissioned as a public water supply and declared a sanctuary in 1995 to protect wildlife and native plants. There are walking trails and barbecue areas but camping is prohibited.
