Lake Albert, Meningie SA

A few weeks ago we booked a week's holiday in Meningie on Lake Albert, hoping to get some sunny days by the lake.  However, the week we were there it rained on and off every day and in fact we had some days and nights of really high winds and extremely cold nights.  We wanted to have some time for reading and painting (for me) so we certainly had plenty of time for that, but we did manage to go on a couple of nice drives in between the rain storms and also got to have a campfire so that was a highlight for us as it's not a camping trip unless we can have a campfire and toast some marshmallows.

Lake Albert is a freshwater lake which is filled by water flowing into it from Lake Alexandrina near the mouth of the Murray River.  Lake Albert is also known by its Ngarrindjeri name, Yarli.

We didn't see as many birds on the lake as we have seen on other trips here, probably because it was too cold and wet for them too.

The weather gave us some great cloud photos

Tolmer Rocks

One afternoon we set off for a drive to Tolmer Rocks about a half hour from Meningie.  The largest  granite /limestone rock stands about 130 metres high and are very impressive.

When the storm hit I managed to get some photos of the lake with some very choppy waves which was interesting to see as usually it is very flat.

The  normally calm lake got a bit choppy

Long Point where we thought we might see some seals but it must have been too cold for them!

We had a great week in Meningie despite the weather.  It is such a beautiful part of South Australia and is so different in each season.  We have stayed here in summer and it is so enjoyable sitting outside  by the lake but in winter it is still lovely and it isn't so crowded and we can have a campfire.

Bye for now.
