Farina, Flinders Ranges, South Australia |
Carrieton, in the Flinders Ranges is a small town about 300 km north of Adelaide.I n 1882 the opening of the Orroroo to Quorn railway saw Carrieton prosper as an integral part of the railway, servicing the north and south with grain, and copper from nearby Prince Alfred Mine. Carrieton is now a very small town, with a great caravan park on the site of the former school and has volunteers managing it. Most of the shops are now closed as well as the hotel, but is a very interesting town to walk around and enjoy a stopover for a night or two.

The Flinders Ranges in South Australia is one of favourite places to explore and we try to get there every year for a camping trip. Farina is about 700 km north of Adelaide. In 1880 it was a centre for mining and transport for stock and the railhead for surrounding towns.
How interesting, I can't wait to get back to do more exploring in Australia. Your campsite looks peaceful but good job your brought everything with you!

Thanks WW, yes we are self sufficient mostly, especially at Farina, but at certain times they have a wood fired bakery operating there by volunteers and we are able to buy fresh pies, pasties and sweet baked goodies. Always put on a bit of weight after a few days there, but its worth it!
DeleteEvery time I see your banner photo my mood improves - it is so lovely. Great photos, sceneries & birds.
ReplyDeleteHi Ritta, I am pleased that my photos help make your day better, they do the same for me too and I do enjoy reminiscing some of our trips away too. We are very lucky to live in a beautiful country with the outback so close for us.
DeleteRosie - so glad you are making Mosaic Monday a regular blog stop! Your posts are intriguing, especially the camping element. We love to travel to new places and to camp! Of course, everything in your part of the world is BIG - I can't quite absorb the wing span of the bustard or the size of the galahs! I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteAngie, thanks for your comments. We enjoy our trips away in our caravan in the outback of Australia. Your country is so different and of course your winters are quite different to ours as we don't have snow here in South Australia and the summers are very hot and dry.
DeleteWhat a sweet little place, such a shame many of these little towns become deserted, that's sign of the times though. Pleased to see restoration being done.
