Watercolours

I am a beginner in the world of artists but as the experts say, if you keep painting you will succeed, so that is what I intend to do!  I hope you can give me some inspiration and encouragement by posting some comments.

Flinders Ranges

6th September 2016
Day 1

We left around 9.30 am and headed off on our trip to the Flinders Ranges.  We had made a booking at Flinders Bush Retreat, Willow Waters which is about 10 km from Hawker and is on Willow Waters Station.  The weather was cool but the sun was out most of the day and we enjoyed the drive and the countryside was so lush and green, quite different from the last time  a couple of years ago.  Our first stop was at Burra where we had a stroll around this lovely little town and had a good cup of coffee at one of the cafes before driving on for our lunch stop at Mt Bryan.  There is a good spot near the old railway station with plenty of room for caravans and tables to sit at as well as very clean toilets.

After leaving Mt Bryan we continued on through Terowie where we stopped for fuel and then on to Orroroo where we stopped for the night at a roadside stop.
Terowie has these great signs in the town

We have stayed here several times before and it is a good area, off the road and plenty of room for vans with both large and small trees and bushes which makes it a  very pretty spot to spend the night.  There were several other vans there when we arrived, but we found a good area away from the road and thought if it rained we would be able to get out easily.

We set up without unhooking and managed to get the van level, had a cuppa and enjoyed sitting in the sun.  There were a few birds flying around and I managed to get some photos of the ring necked parrots in a tree near us.  Tea tonight was home made soup which I had defrosted during the day, first night and a lot of driving so we didn't feel like eating a lot. The sunset was a good one and we went for a stroll around the camping area and got some good photos.

Blossom & Butterflies

We had a lovely drive on Sunday and here are a few photos I took while out and about in the Adelaide hills.  The weather was perfect and it really feels like spring is coming.

Feathered Friends

Welcome to Around the Place, this time around I am showing you some photos of birds I have photographed here at home in the suburbs of Adelaide and also some taken on holidays in other parts of Australia.  Although I am not a "photographer" I enjoy photography and the challenge of finding the various birds on our travels.  I have tried to identify the birds in these photos but I may have got some of them wrong, so if you know their correct identity I would be happy for you to let me know.

There is a family of magpies that come in almost every morning, sometimes they even sit on the verandah and warble until we come out and feed them.  Its such a lovely "wake up" call and we enjoy watching them squabble over the food and have learnt a lot about their "pecking  order".  They are beautiful birds.

The Noisy Minors love our garden and when the magpies come down for a treat the Noisy Minors are never far away and after a while they start flying in and try to scare off the magpies, usually with no success.  The magpies leave when they are ready and not before.

These galahs are found in most areas of Australia and we have lots of them in Adelaide.

Close to home

Here are some photos taken on our visit to Mannum.  Our son and his family live on 30 acres near Mannum so we visit often and I always enjoy the drive through the Adelaide hills.
Take a break and enjoy!
