2019 - Photos of This Year

Well another year to look back on and be very grateful that we  enjoyed reasonably good health, some great trips away and time spent with family.  We are also grateful that we weren't affected directly by the terrible bushfires here in South Australia and in many other parts of Australia.

The very sad news today of the devastating bush fires in New South Wales and Victoria. The fires have destroyed many of the towns we have visited over the years and  have travelled through.  It is so shocking to watch the television footage of everything that has been lost and destroyed.

I feel awful posting my photos of my year but hope that those that have lost such a lot in the fires  can find hope for the new year and they can make a new start in 2020.

A day trip into the Adelaide Hills for some photos.

An incredible sculpture of the great motorcyclist Kenny Blake has been unveiled in Strathalbyn.
Kenny was a Strathalbyn icon; he grew up there, and in honour of him the annual Kenny Blake Festival of Motorcycling is held at the town’s oval on his birthday.
He started motorcycle racing his 1964 Triumph in 1966, and went on to win 11 national championships and compete at the Isle of Man.
During his last race before retirement at the Isle of Man in 1981, his bike aquaplaned, and he slid and hit a concrete post and was killed instantly.
He is a revered Australian motorcyclist, and the festival celebrates both the man and the racer he was.

In March we had a great cruise to New Zealand

In August we had a road trip to Queensland for 7 weeks in our caravan travelling about 10,000 km

In October we had a family and friends weekend in Lake Bonney, Barmera, South Australia

And later in October we had a weekend in Renmark for the Rose Festival

On the way home from Renmark we camped along the River Murray for a couple of nights.

The weather on the weekend of the Rose Festival was extremely hot, around 40C, so some of the roses had been damaged by the extreme heat, but amazingly some managed to survive.

Back home and the Rainbow Lorikeets were having a get together around the bird bath.
